Grace to you!
I wish I could properly express my joy in knowing that you have made the choice to build your relationship with God, by reading His word. Why is this so exciting? Because I know the power of God’s word in our lives. It truly is the difference between life or death and happiness or despair.
Life is made of a lot of seemingly small choices. It is those small decisions that make the big things of life. I am sure you can remember a relatively small choice that you have made, that created a big ordeal. Often that decision is made out of not knowing another way to think about a thing. This is why we need the word of God; He wants the best for you and will guide you to making the right decision. You were created to have a full and blessed life, but if you don’t know the map by which to get there, you can miss it.
Your past ways of thinking can derail you from making good decisions, because frankly, what you know is all you know! It is time to know something different. It is time to know truth, God’s truth. New knowledge creates new beliefs and when we can believe something different we will act differently.
Knowing what God has done for you and what He thinks of you is the most important thing. Knowing what your life can and should be is the goal. The devil wants you to remember your past, to feel bad about what you have been or done. He wants you to believe you can’t change…it’s too late…life isn’t worth living sober…it’s too hard….you’ve messed up too much.
This is where my son was and it cost him his life. He believed that Jesus died for his sins, but he didn’t take the step you are taking and that is to renew his mind by the reading and believing the word of God. He let all the haunting thoughts; self –condemnation and guilt get to him. He couldn’t see life without heroin. He was three days into reading his Bible, but made one “tiny choice,” created from his old thought patterns, and it killed him.
There are no tiny decisions. They all add up to something big. You can look back and your life and see them. So now, make every choice count. If you don’t know what to do, just say “Jesus!” and allow the Holy Spirit to minister to you. Reach out to a strong believer for support. Just do nothing until you know what to do. It is better to do nothing than do something that could hurt you.
Let’s settle some things. If you feel bad about your past, guess what! God doesn’t remember it anymore because when He looks at you, He sees the finished works of Jesus Christ! When Jesus died on the cross, He created a new verdict for all those who become children of God. The verdict is: pardoned, not guilty, complete amnesty. So if God doesn’t judge you for your past, who are you to keep bringing it up? You must stop dragging around the nasty baggage that Jesus died to deliver you from.
You have the power to overcome; the power lives in you because Jesus lives in you, now. It is up to you to access and use it. You must decide to say “no” to lies and instead agree with what the Bible says.
Jesus was tempted, too. He used the Word of God to counter the temptations of the devil. (Luke 4:1-13) This is how we must do it, too. The devil has no power, but to try to get you to believe him. He can’t DO ANYTHING without human hands or mouths. So, refuse to believe him and be part of his plan; believe what God says; that is the renewing of the mind. “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” (Romans 12:2)
When the enemy tries to bring up accusations, tell him to shut up. Say aloud, “For the word says, “I am forgiven. I am part of the kingdom of God, now, and my past does not define me. I am strong and I have the power of Jesus living in me! (1 John 1:9, 2:12, Colossians 1:13-14)
It is so important to begin believing what God says so that you can believe that you are now part of the kingdom of God and begin acting that way. This is how your life will turn around into the beautiful life God has for you.
In your Bible packet, there was a powerful book on how to be delivered of addiction, once and for all. Please read that booklet as many times as you need. Say the recommended Bible verses to help build your belief in the healing power that is yours. When you read the verses aloud, it gets deep in your soul (mind, will and emotions.) Teach your mind to believe what God says about you and Him.
