The most brilliant man in modern history knew what man needs:
“I want to know God’s thoughts; the rest are details.” Albert Einstein
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the LORD. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8–9
Some think this verse means we cannot know God’s thoughts. Not true! What God is telling us is that His ways and thoughts are bigger, better and perfect so get to know them!
“For ‘who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?’ But we have the mind of Christ.” 1 Corinthians 2:16
A believer has, not is going to get, the mind of Christ, so we certainly have the capacity to know God’s thoughts.
If you want to know what God thinks, listen to what He says. His word, the Bible, is what He says.
Knowing what God thinks is not complicated; it is as plain as the print of your Bible. Satan is the author of confusion and if you are confused by what it says, simply ask the Holy Spirit to reveal it to you.
“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” John 14:26
One of the main jobs of the Holy Spirit is to teach you the word and bring it to your memory when you need it and that is pretty much every minute of the day!
The Bible says that we should bring all thoughts into captivity. (2 Corinthians 10:5) This simply means we must catch all our thoughts and be aware of them. We are not meant to just think about or dwell on any old thing that comes flying into our heads!
Thoughts are not harmless things, but the force behind all that we do and are. We take our thoughts captive or prisoner to make sure they line up with God’s thoughts. As we think a thought repeatedly, it grows, so we must be mindful of every single thought. One time thoughts are easy to get rid of but the ones we have chewed on, those may take some work.
When God says bring all thoughts into captivity, He means all. Thoughts control your health: builds and releases your DNA, and decides the level of peace, or lack of, in your soul.
Thoughts take up physical real estate in our brain: they are things! With 30,000- 60,000 thoughts per day, you have the unique potential to either build a beautiful, sucessful, healthy life or one of chaos, sickness and defeat.
“My son, give attention to my words;
Incline your ear to my sayings.
Do not let them depart from your eyes;
Keep them in the midst of your heart;
For they are life to those who find them,
And health to all their flesh.”
Proverbs 4:20-22
Science shows we are only designed for positive thoughts. When we choose to think bad thoughts, those contrary to God, they literally do brain damage.
Addiction is not a bad thing; we are made to be addicted to God. Addiction brings all thoughts into captivity. Can you see how the enemy takes something good and natural as addiction and perverts it with imposters of gratification and emotional/physical highs?
When we are addicted to something, we bring our thought life captive before that thing. The smoker plans his day around the next smoke break. The drug addict plans his day around that next hit. The food addict plans their day around the next taste. The mind works on how to fit it in, satisfy that thing one is addicted to and weighs the “truth” around that thing. We should bring all our thoughts before God and nothing else.
Bringing thoughts into captivity to a substance or thing damages our brain. People are not only addicted to things; People can also be addicted to themselves.
People who are addicted to themselves bring every thought before the throne of their feelings and their own reasoning, above all else.
Depressed people are often addicted to themselves and the depression is caused by obsessing about their negative thoughts. All thoughts that are contrary to God are always lies and negative thoughts based in fear.
There is no medical research that shows depression originates in the brain, but caused by wrong thinking. It is the mind that controls the brain, not the other way around. The good news is your mind will also get your out of it. Changing thought patterns changes brain chemicals and function. Often the change is almost instant!
Depression medication often works, for a short time, simply because it stops the negative thought cycle, breaking the pattern. When we stop thinking about something, good or bad, the neurological pathways die. There is some merit for short term medication, but it is not a fix.
Medication does not teach you the word of God. Without rerouting your thought patterns with God’s thoughts, you will still have the trauma, hurt or stronghold lurking. Since thoughts are part of your gray matter, it is often a matter of time before negative thoughts rear its ugly head because they haven’t been removed but ignored.
Bringing all thoughts into captivity is a healing thing. Taking control over your own life is a liberating thing. You can renew your mind. In fact we are instructed to do so. God knows it is what we need and He would not have told us to do something we were not able to do.
God sent Jesus to free the captives of their own minds, the ways of this world (sin) and all the things that weigh us down. He gave us the ability to have divine health by having a healthy mind. It’s up to you.
So, what do you think?
